We need to educate legislators and candidates on the range of issues facing veterans.
Below is a list of some of those issues that need to be addressed by our elected officials.

Veterans Health Care Reform |
Eliminating Offsets for Veterans and Survivors |
For more than a decade, the VA health care system has been under-resourced and unable to provide timely access to all enrolled veterans seeking medical services.
Our PAC currently supports removing the 40 mile distance rule completely, this rule keeps millions of our nation’s heroes from getting the care that they need. Many of our veterans are too scared to seek outside care due to the fear of receiving bills, that they cannot afford. Our nation’s heroes cannot continue, to be treated this way! As well, many of our veterans are not getting the cutting edge medications that they need. Veterans’ should not have to rely on a generic medication list that is made up of non-name brand medications. Many of these medication got on this list by being the “lowest bidder”. If the Veteran’s provider feels that he or she needs a certain medication, a bureaucrat in Washington should not be allowed to veto that decision. These decisions should be made between the Veteran and his or her provider! It is time that all Americans and elected officials show our heroes the respect and appreciation that they deserve! |
We need to end the unfair policy of offsetting payments of Social Security Disability Insurance benefits or any other federal benefits by the amount of VA compensation.
|
- Increased funding for the VA Aid and Attendance Program. While great progress has been made with many of the backlogs in the VA system, this program seems to be lagging behind. Many Veteran's spouses depend on this money to hire in home support, keep our nations heroes out of institutionalized care.
- We support candidates that want to increase the number of local Veteran's Service Officers. These VSOs are critical in navigating the VA system, and help insure that our nation's heroes get the benefits they deserve.
- We support more funding earmarked for the VA to provided transportation to and from appointments. Many of our Veterans live several miles away from their local VA hospital, and do not have the support system in place to travel to and from the VA facility.
- We need increased support for emergency housing for our Veterans. Many of our nation's Veterans live pay check to pay check, and can quickly find themselves homeless. The American Wounded Veterans PAC believes that there are no excuses for any of our heroes to be without a place to call home.
There are an estimated 1.8 million Purple Heart recipients,
combat wounded service members who have transitioned back into civilian life.
Through our work with Non-Profits, and other veteran-focused groups,
we will advocate for the election of candidates that will work for more job training,
and better healthcare for our veterans.
